This is a short rAgamAlika consisting of four rAgams: Anandabhairavi, kalyANi, bAgEshrI, and ra~njaniRaga mudra for all these four rAgams are present in this simple and elegant composition. The presence of dvitIyAkSra prAsam (rhyme at the second syllable) in all stanzas here is a noteworthy feature that adds further beauty to the song.

The song is in praise of Goddess KarpakAmbAL, the divine consort of Lord KapAlIshvara in the city temple located in the heart of Mylaore in Chennai.

MEANING

Oh Goddess Karpagavalli (the consort of kapAlIshvara)! Who is seated in the architecturally beautiful temple at MayilApuri (Mylapore), which has numerous sculptures, and which is worshipped by all devoteesI hold (worship) your golden feet. Please lead me unto the virtuous path (to salvation) At this moment, If you forget this humble devotee of yours, whom else can I seek for shelter in this world?  Oh AnandabhairavI, the one who supports and rules over everything, why are you so silent (in helping me)?

Oh umA, the heroine and nitya KalyANI (ever auspicious)! the consort of Lord KapAlishvara-( who is loved by Lord KapAlishvara), who always bestows gracefully happiness to all and rule the world well, I hold implicit faith in you.

You are  pArvati, the mother, the ruler of serpants (nAgEshvari), vAgEshvari (ruler of speech),  the ruler of the entire unuiverse (lOkEshvari), and bAghEshrI.  Please protect me, who firmly believes in you; please appear now since the time is ripe.  You are the only protection for me in this world. O mother  ra~njani! The one decorated with a~njanam (cornilium) in the eye, and who is in playful sports with Lord Shiva,  I have taken refuge in you, and I am your child.  I plead with you to please protect me.
