This is a
song in three parts (four rAgams in each part) that has nicely built
ciTTasvarams after every 4th rAgam in the vilOma kramam
(reverse order) of the rAgams of that particular quartette. There are
12 rAgams in total: Arabhi, Anandabhairavi, kalyANi, hamsadhvani
(followed by vilOma svarams in the rAgams 4 to 1, and then the
pallavi line) sAra"nga, sAma, mOhanam, lalita (vilOma
svarams in the rAgams 8 to 5 followed by the pallavi line)
darbAr, .bhairavi, .pUrvikalyANi , kamalAmanOhari (vilOma
svarams in the rAgams 12 to 9, and finally, the pallavi
line)
MEANING
Oh consort bhairava (shiva)! The embodiment of
happiness! Who else, but you would have treated me with such wholesome regard
and kindness and nourished my self-respect?
Oh the
supreme auspicious one, whose voice resembles that of a swan! with whom
else (other tha you) will I be able to share my grievances ?
Oh mother shrI lalitA! I have always considered thy feet as my
refuge, the feet of the consort of the Lord who holds a deer in his hand. Oh
goddess, with a majestic gait of an elephant , and form so beautiful that
the whole world is ensnared to contemplate upon! Why not show me some
mercy in your heart?
Oh highly sacred bhairavi (the consort of bhairava) ! Do I
appear as if I have the ability to speak of the grandeur of your court,
where, I have heard that one’s distresses are relieved? You have to protect
me Oh delighter of Goddess lakSmI (kamala)! I plead you to
glance at me from the corner of your eyes and shower your compassion on me,
Oh divine mother.
RAGA MUDRA
There is built-in rAga mudra for all the 12 rAgams.
Some are synonyms of the names of Goddess (kalyANi, lalitA, kamalAmanOhari);
the rAgam mOhanam appears in the phrase "jaganmOhanam", and is
not to be confused with the rAgam by that name. The rAgam
pUrvikalyANi has an incomplete mudra "pUri".
