rAgam sarasvati

Sarasvati is an auDavaSaDava rAgam, generally classified under the mELa hEmavati.

ArOhaNam:    s r m p d s

AvarOhaNam: s n d p m r s

The note ga is omitted altogether. ri, ni are rAga chAyA svarams; pa is the amsha svaram; this rAgam shines well in pratyAhata gamakam. TyAgarAja’s k.rti, anurAgamulEni and MuttayyA bhAgavatar’s vAgIshvarI are popular songs in the rAgam.  There is no composition in this rAgam by either dIkSitar or shyAma sAstri. The rAga mudra “sarasvati”, is right there at the first phrase of the pallavi.
