MUSIC AND DANCE |
Ever heard of dance without music? Or enjoyed dance if it was accompanied by bad music? It's impossible to even conceive such a possibility! Music is a very important part of any dance form, be it Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Odissi, Manipuri or for that matter, ballet or disco. There are musical forms that are very specific to dance, like Tillana, Pada-Varnam, Jatiswaram and Alarippu. Abhinaya (emoting with the aid of facial expressions) wouldn't make any sense if it were not accompanied by lyrics, which are more often sung than recited. Similarly, footwork wouldn't be effective without the help of percussion. (For more details on dance, visit Dancers' Paradise) |
