NOTES
This is the only k.ri among
these nine gems that is found in subbarAma dIkSitar’s sa”ngIta
sampradAya pradarshini , in volume II, under mELam (rAgA”nga rAgam 20)
rItigauLa. The rAga mudra for (nArI)rItigauLa appears in the anupallavi, in a
slightly altered form as “rItigauravE”. The phrase “natabhairavE”
should not be confused with a reference to the rAgam naThabhairavi. The
phrase employed here is only “nata” and not “natha”!. As mentioned earlier,
it is viewed that this k.rti does not belong to the vibhakti series, since
nArIrItigauLa is already used in one of the earlier vibhakti songs; also, the
sambOdhana vibhakti is featured in the previous song, and further, this is the
only k.rti in this set that begins with the additional prefix “shrI”,
instead of just nIlOtpalAmbA, which is the commencing phrase of all other
k,rtis in this set.
This k.rti, a grand finale,
essentially epitomizes all the praise showered on the Goddess of nIlOtpala,
in all the earlier eight k.rtis.
