Concert of TNSKrishna at The Music Academy on 26.12.2009
Anayaampatti GVenkatasubramaniam on violin and MSVaradan on mridhangam
The concert started with nayaki varnam which was followed by raga panthuvarali which is one of the ragas in which Krishna usually excels. The krthi was Sivasivasiavenaradha of Thyagraja. As it is with the concerts of his father, Madurai TNSeshagopalan who is versatile genius in his manodharma, though the krthi was heard for the second day in succession it sounded as if we are hearing for the first time due to the rendering of the krthi and svaras which were fresh and of different flavour.
The next was the Anandabhairavi krthi of Shyamasastri ‘marivere gathi.’ Krishna has a gamaka oriented voice and the raga and krthi were sung with depth of ragabhava and sahithyabhava which was very pleasing to hear. Then Krishna started the raga alapana of snkarabharanam, which was elaborate and enchanting and the krthi was ‘sree kamalaamabikayaa,’ of Dhikshithar. The svara prasthara at the end was very mature showing superb layajnana and skill of improvisation.
After a splendid thani by MSVaradan, Krishna started on Subhapanthuvarali, one of his forte. Krishna received applause three time duing his delineation of the raga. After the thanam Krishna sang the pallavi ‘neepaadhme gathi nammithi neerajaakshi nikhilaloka sakshi,’ and the svaraprasthara was executed in a marvellous manner with laya and innovation and full of expertise.
Krishna , after a viruttham on Lord Muruga in ragamalika ended the concert with the song ‘sundari en soppanatthi,’ in kamas which he always sings beautifully.
