 ABOUT US

Youth Association for Classical Music, YACM celebrated its 19th Anniversary between 27th August and 31st August, 2004 at Ragasudha, Mylapore. The event featured young, talented musicians exhibiting their skills on the concert platform. YACM’s two-fold objective, providing concert opportunities to youngsters and creating awareness and forming a rasika community, was satisfied and achieved during the course of the last five days.

The Inauguration witnessed encouraging and colorful speeches by Sangita Kalanidhi Sri. T. K. Govinda Rao and Mr. Randor Guy. While Sri. Govinda Rao spoke about the increasing number of youth getting involved in Carnatic Music, Mr. Randor Guy spoke about the connection between South Indian Cinema and Classical Music. On Saturday, “Beauty of Sahitya in Musical compositions” was taken up for a lecture demonstration by Sangita Choodamani Smt. Suguna Purushottaman. This was followed by a Harikatha by Smt. It was time for some fun on Sunday morning and the school students of Vidya mandir, PSBB (KK Nagar and Nungambakkam), Sivaswamy kalalaya, Kola Perumal responded wonderfully by conducting and participating in a variety of games related to Classical Music. The prizes were awarded to Vidya Mandir(I), PSBB,Main(II) and PSBB, KK Nagar(III). The concert featured that evening was by V Pradeep Kumar.

On Monday, a group of six students presented 10 rare songs of the trinity that were learnt from Sri P S Narayanaswamy in a workshop held under the banner of YACM, earlier this year. This was followed by a veena recital of Bhavani Prasad. The closing day events were presided over by Sangitha Kalanidhi Smt R Vedavalli and Sangitha Kala Shikhamani Guruvayur Sri Dorai.
