Genius of the Violin Festival 2004 London, UK |
Whether it is Klezmer, classical, bluegrass or folk music that interests you, Genius of the Violin has something for all tastes! This brand-new two-week festival runs between 25th March and 4th April 2004 in London (UK) and has over 280 hours of violin-based events; including 23 concerts, two major music competitions and an extensive educational outreach programme. Collaboration partners of the festival include BBC Radio 3, the Strad Magazine, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Barbican, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Wigmore Hall, the Jewish Music Institute, EC4 Music, Chetham’s School of Music, the Yehudi Menuhin School, the British Violin Making Association, the 606 Club, Pro Corda, the British Bluegrass Association, the British Suzuki Institute, Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra, Hammersmith & Fulham Irish Centre, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Handel House and last, but by no means least, the Philharmonia Orchestra. Genius of the Violin has been developed through an association between the Royal Academy of Music and the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists. It is a registered UK charity with the objectives of: 1) Increasing the visibility of the violin and introducing new audiences to the range of its repertoire 2) Promoting and providing an educational environment to the general public independent of age and background 3) Addressing the educational needs of people operating in the field of violin music by giving them a forum to perform, exchange knowledge and develop their skills The South Indian Violin Tradition will be represented at the Festival by Balu Raguraman, violin vidwan and resident teacher at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London.
