The remembrance day is held on 25th July every year for THANJAVUR UPENDRAN, famous mridangam vidwan by his family and disciples. He was born on 6/11/1934, in a family of musicians and freedom fighters. He had his training from Thanjavur Mahalingam Pillai, Raghava Rao and Rajam Iyer. He also had the proud privilege of having the Maestro Palghat.Mani Iyer as his guru.

Upendran had his debut performance at his age of ten, and this was to the vocal concert of the veteran Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar. Crossing several hindrances, he came to the limelight, because of his honesty, hardwork, straight-forwardness and devotion. He was a non-controversial artist, liked by one and all.

He was associated with several organizations such as Muthamizh Peravai, Arutpa Isai Vizha, Vadalur, Thyagaraja Utsava Committee, Thiruvaiyaru, Naalu Kaal Mandapam Anchaneyar Utsavam, Thanjavur, etc. He was a staunch devotee of Pujyasri Haridoss Giri Swamigal and accompanied him in his bhajans.

He got many titles and awards such as Kalaimamani. He had a number of disciples, who learnt from him under Gurukula Vasam. He encouraged several young and talented artists by accompanying them and arranging concerts for them in different places.

In his fourteenth Anniversary this year, the Carnatica Brothers are giving a vocal concert.
