Unchavritti with a difference! |
"Relive Thyagaraja" On the 6th of February 2004, Carnatica plans to pay tribute to Saint Tyagaraja with a traditional unchavritti that will continue non-stop for 36 hours. The caravan comprising musicians clad in traditional attire and singing the bard's compositions will move around important musical locations in Chennai, covering various sabhas, musicians' houses, schools and temples. The offerings in cash or kind, collected in trademark earthen pots during the unchavritti will be forwarded to orphanages, talented but needy musicians and such other charitable causes. We seek the active participation and generous support of rasikas and the music-loving general public as we remember the revered saint and celebrate his compositions in the same unchavritti style that he adopted. Offerings made by the Rasikas, well wishers, Musicians and students in kind and cash would be donated to the orphanages, destitute homes, poor and needy.
