NAVARATRI FESTIVAL IN TIRUVANANTAPURAM |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Scores of people have passionately
described the special ambience and atmosphere of the Navaratri
festival at the Navaratri Mantapam in Tiruvanantapuram. And many more
have written about it. If you haven't yet experienced it, here is your
chance. The Navaratri festival will take place between 5th and 15th
October this year at the same venue, the famed Navaratri Mantapam. And
as always there are a few protocols that you will have to observe when
you get there.
Since the Mantapam becomes temporarily
a temple, admission is limited to Hindu men, and that too in traditional
temple dress. Women are not allowed onto the Mantapam. Concerts start punctually at 6
pm and
ends punctually at 8.30 pm, so rasikas should try to be seated before the
concert starts and are not allowed to get up until the closing bell is
rung at 8.30 pm.
Seating is on the floor of
the Mantapam. However, for the benefit of ladies who are not allowed on to the
Mantapam as also other devotees who are not able to squat on the floor, a veranda
outside the
courtyard is available. Lots of people also sit on the steps of the Sri
Padmanabhaswamy temple. Since loudspeakers are provided at vantage points
outside, you can listen to the concerts even if you are unable to get into
the Mantapam. Here is the concert line up for this year.
