As part of our Vintage Reminiscences series, Carnatica is proud and honoured to bring out a live concert recording of the respected and reputed vocalist Smt. Ananthalakshmi Sadagopan. An acclaimed musician, Ananthalakshmi Sadagopan set the music scene ablaze in the 1940s and 1950s with her gramophone records like Ganamazhai and the four raga Sankarabharananai pallavi, which the listeners remember nostalgically even now. Her concerts offer the best in every aspect of Carnatic music. While her gifted voice traverses over gamakas, kaarvais and brikas with effortless ease and enchanting sweetness, her vidwat and classical values form the solid base to the timeless quality of her music. Disciple of the late legendary Sathur A.G. Subramaniam, she has also had the advantage of learning under doyens like Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, V. V. Sadagopan, Nedunuri Krishnamurthy and T. Mukta. Her training in Hindustani classical music under Vaman Rao Sadolikar adds a rare charm to her raga delineations. A much sought after musician, she has performed all over India. She has also set to music several compositions and has recorded discs and cassettes with leading companies.

This release has been digitally mastered from an original live concert recording on spool tapes residing in Smt. Sadagopan's family archives. Her daughter Smt. Sujatha Vijayaraghavan provides vocal support in this concert. The items in this 2-CD release are:

This is a special recording that commemorates the birth centenary of the legendary Gottuvadyam vidwan. Released at the Music Academy on Dec. 26th 2003, nearly 75 years after Narayana Iyengar recorded the original tracks as 78 rpm discs with no accompaniment whatsoever, this album has been compiled and re-mixed with chitravina input from his grandson N. Ravikiran and percussion support (mridangam & kanjira) by senior vidwan Srimushnam Sri. V. Raja Rao. This was mainly to rectify speed and pitch variations in the original recording, due to natural wear and tear of the discs. To keep the vintage feel intact, the originals have undergone minimal processing. The compilation is a sample of Narayana Iyengar's vast repertoire and offers glimpses of his genius and technique.
