Sri. A. Sundaresan was born on   September 9th 1932. He took to music at a tender age of 5 and old timers remember his involved presence in the concerts of maestros like GNB, Alattur Brothers, Ramnad Krishnan, MDR and others even when he was just 10 yrs old. His musical tutelage was first under Sri. Kittamani Bhagavathar, Sri. Ramnad  Krishnan, Alattur Brothers and Smt. D. K. Pattamal. When he started performing in his teens all the stalwarts came forward to accompany him. Giants like Sri. Palghat Mani Iyer encouraged and recommended and played for him in many centers. Sri. Lalgudi Jayaraman, Sri. M. S. Gopalakrishnan, Sri. Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Sri. Palghat Raghu and others joined to make his concerts a big success which many elders remember to day.

Today Sri. A. Sundaresan is one of the most  sought after teachers. He has worked on varied aspects of Carnatic Music. His forte is his ability to  trace and revive a number of rare kritis of the Trinity and other composers. He has performed a number of lec-dems in India and abroad on various topics. He is known to inspire his students with a lot of enthusiasm when he imparts to them his extensive knowledge.

Recently he took part in the Cleveland Tyagaraja Festival USA in which he demonstrated the rare kritis of Shyama Sastri and spoke about his life and time. Thereafter he travelled to Sacramento, USA where he taught music for a period of three months. He covered Swarajathis and geethams by Shyama Sastri and varnams & rare kritis of the Trinity. He has trained a number of students many of whom are settled abroad and teach music. Having taught at the Music Academy Madras for a number of years he has trained many a student of the advanced music course there. Some of his students who are performing regularly are Smt. Gayathri Venkataraghavan, Smt. Savita Sriram, Smt. Vasumathi Desikan, Sri. A. Boothalingam and Smt.V. Sankari. His students who are in the USA include Smt. Sujatha Srinivasan who is also an accomplished dancer and Smt. Haripriya Raghavan. A number of his disciples such as Sri. Lakshmanan, Sri. Sankaran and Sri. Ravindran teach music. He is also training a number of little children. His variations of the basic lessons like the Alankarams and rare Geethams keep these little ones very interested in learning. He strongly believes that little children will carry the torch of Carnatic music into the future.
