V Venkataraman, popularly known as Shamli Venkat, is a Flute and Shennai vidwan of repute. He is well- known both in the music and dance circuits. Primarily, he inherited this talent from his father late Sri S K Visweswaran, an acclaimed flautist in the troupe of the most celebrated Music Director of yesteryears Sri G Ramanathan. He also had his advanced training from maestros like Sri Raghu and Sri Ravi. He is a Diploma holder from Venugana Vidyalaya. He learnt Shennai under the able guidance of guru Pandit Ananthlal.

    

Venkataraman is a graded artiste of AIR . He is a wonderful soloist plus a good accompanying artiste for Bhajans and vocal concerts. He is an acknowledged accompanist in the troupe “Mahaperiyava” led by the Ghatam maestro, T H Vinayakaram. He is a regular accompanist for dance companies like “Chhanda Dhara” of Shefali Nag of Germany and the internationally renowned Bharatanatyam artiste, Alarmel Valli.

Pranavanadam is a unique instrumental music ensemble that brings out the richness of various melodies from the three major musical systems - South Indian Carnatic, North Indian Hindustani and Western music. Having perceived the Hindustani and Western music system through a Carnatic ear, an attempt is made to attune the ear to appreciate by presenting an aesthetic blend of the three music systems. This innovative effort is made to make the listeners to experience and enjoy the blend of three major music systems within the normal duration of a concert. Shamli Venkat blows the breeze of Hindustani on Bansuri (Bass flute) and Shennai (Pipe) in this team. 

He is not only a favourite of the local audience but has proved his worth even across the seas. His breezy flute resounds even today in the ears of his fans in Singapore and Germany. He has accompanied doyens like Ustad Sultan Khan and Vikku Vinayakaram for their recordings too. Acclaimed star hotels in India have always preferred his solo concerts (both Flute and Shennai) during special festivals. He is a regular soloist not only in renowned Sabhas but also in the in-house cultural events and fairs of Government and non- Government bodies like the India Trade Promotion Organisation, Chennai.
