Padmanabhan is a multi-talented personality, a Mridangam and a Tabla
artiste of great repute. He has trained under renowned gurus in the
percussion field like Sri T K Moorthy, Sri V P Ramadoss and Sri T R
Srinivasan. He also took lessons in the Hindustani style of playing
Tabla under Sri A L Narasu of Salem. Well-known in the fields of
Indian classical music and dance, he has carved a niche for himself
in the field of percussion. An artiste with immense talent, J
Padmanabhan is adored by young and upcoming talents too. With him as
an accompanist, musicians and dancers had ever been at ease. His
firm grip on rhythm and tempo as well as his confidence is admired
by artistes.

Popularly known as Paddu Anna
(brother) in the field of classical dance, he has proved himself as
a successful mridangam and tabla artiste. His special talent of
playing volumes of rhythmic notations on the spot is noteworthy.
This special talent has kept him as an ever-preferred choice for
most of the dancers and dance teachers for experimenting and
organising novel dance ballets and group and solo thematic
productions.
Padmanabhan completed the Vadya
Visharad Diploma course in mridangam conducted by the Tamilnadu
Government Music College, in 1989 with flying colours. To add yet
another jewel to his crown, he is now the lecturer in the Dance
Department of the same college.
He is a regular accompanist in the
troupes led by great gurus such as Kalaimamani Smt.
Krishnakumari Narendran, Kalaimamani Smt. Saraswati
Sundaresan, Natyacharyas Smt and Sri Narasimhachari, Music
College fame Kalaimamani Smt. Chandra Dandayudhapani, Nritta
Marayar Natyacharya Udupi Sri. Lakshminarayan, Kalaimamani Smt.
K J Sarasa and Smt. Radha, cine-world celebrity Kumari Kamala (now
Kamala Lakshman), Smt. Anita Guha, Smt. Shanti Madhu and Smt.
Kanchana Janardhanan. He also accompanies young talents and the
present day idols like Urmila Satyanarayana, the multi-faceted
Revati Menon, Shobhana, the Muralidharans, Mavin Khoo, Kalaimamani
Smt. Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala and so on. He enjoys playing for the
buds and blossoms in the field too.
His decades of experience in the
Bhajan field has nurtured his talent and prepared him for playing
for several hours at a stretch. He has accompanied the star of
yesteryears in the world of Harikatha, Sri Muruga Kripananda Variar,
Delhi Raghunatha Bhagavatar and the contemporary Harikatha Queen
Smt. Revathi Sankaran.
A graded artiste in All India Radio,
Chennai, in Mridangam as well as Tabla, he has also tried his hand
at the Tala Vadya concert (Indian Rhythm Instrument Fusion),
conducted by the doyen mridangist late Sri Upendran. His talent was
unanimously appreciated by both musicians and music lovers.
His tours abroad to USA, Canada and
Paris accompanying the Narasimhacharis in 1991, to South Africa in
1992 with Sri. Arunagiri, to Malaysia in 1996, to Maldives in 1997
and France in 1998 are memorable ones that still live in the hearts
of the audience. |
