Dear browsers,

Carnatica.com is now two months old and at the end of it, we have recorded an amazing hit rate! It is indeed very heartening to see that Carnatic music has this huge a following. Goes to proves that technology has indeed done more good for this ancient and traditional system than otherwise. Must sure give the cynics some food for thought!

The last month has been a busy one, full of activities. The Carnatica team has done its best to keep you abreast of all the happenings. We came out with the special coverage on Guruguhanjali,  the exclusive Dikshitar festival in Chennai, organised by Dr. V V Srivatsa. With time ticking away and the season, just days away, Carnatica has come up with the new section, entitled Madras Music Mela. In this section, we shall try to capture the excitement and the disappointments, the fun and frolic, the mayhem and the nostalgia associated with the season!

On a different note, we all know that the season is growing bigger and bigger. And the complaints too! But what are we going to do about it? Are we going to be the passive public and do absolutely nothing to change things? Well, as usual, Carnatica has stepped forward on everyone’s behalf. The first and foremost thing was to find out exactly what people felt about the whole thing. Without it any further steps would be futile, if not impossible. So we hit upon this idea of coming out with specific questionnaires for the people who comprise the Carnatic scene, namely, the artistes, the organisers, the sponsors and most importantly, the rasikas. We initially started handing out these questionnaires in person. As expected, the response was tremendous. But then, we felt we would be missing out on the sizeable public outside Madras (who are an important part of the season as well!) and thus decided to put it up online too! Ever since, our mailbox has been flooded with responses, particularly from the rasikas! It’s wonderful to see that most people have something constructive to say and that the complaints are not baseless. Well, Carnatica hopes that the collective voice of the people will be heard and will act as the catalyst for some changes, at least in the future.

Coming to other things, we invite your active participation in the Open House discussions and the Rasika Centre. Each day is a learning experience for us and we are trying out new things in order to provide the best. Our success cannot be spelled without “u”.
