| Mukta of Brinda-Mukta fame, is one of the gems of the Vina Dhanammal family. Having had her preliminary lessons from her mother Kamakshi Ammal, she then accompanied her elder sister, T Brinda, for training under the celebrated Naina Pillai of Kanchipuram. While Brinda had her tuition directly under the maestro, Mukta imbibed music by merely listening to his lessons and concerts. For nearly six decades, her sister and she performed together. Today, in her mid-eighties, Mukta still preserves the heritage that she was heir to. She also has the distinction of having produced many disciples. |
