Tanjavur NarayanaswamY Appa |
|
Narayanaswamy Appa was a Marathi and was originally known as Nana Sama Rao. He learnt mridangam from Sivasami Appa and was a good vocalist too. The specialty of his mridangam playing was his magic touch and fingering, which were the delights of the connoisseur and a measure of excellence for the percussionists. Appa was noted for his grace and adjustability on the platform, combined with dignified wit and humour. He was the favourite accompanist for artistes like Vina Seshanna and Maha Vaidyanatha Iyer. |
