true representative of the Musiri school today, Govinda Rao had his
first lessons in music under his cousin, Mani Bhagavatar. He later
joined the then Central College of Carnatic music where he had the
opportunity to learn from giants like Tiruppambaram Swaminatha Pillai,
Musiri Subramanya Iyer and T Brinda. After college, he continued his
tutelage under Musiri Subramanya Iyer. Govinda Rao is a traditionalist
to the core and is one of the most respected musicians. He has also
brought out a series of books on the compositions of great masters with
notations. |
