| GNB, as he was popularly known, came blazing into the Carnatic scene, a young and handsome graduate in English Honours, at a time when the arena was already studded with bright stars. His music was refreshingly different, full of unique ideas and brilliant brigas, with a touch of modernity. He mesmerised the old and young alike with his very fluid voice, effortlessness of expression and explorative approach to raga alapanas. His impact on Carnatic music cannot be over-emphasised. His popular hits include Radhasameta (Misra Yaman), Vasudevayani (Kalyani) and Vararagalaya (Chenchukambhoji). |
