T Chowdiah enjoyed high popularity both as an accompanist and a soloist par excellence. A man of ideas, he designed the seven-stringed violin and even used it in all his concerts. He also had a violin with 12 sympathetic strings. He was well known for his rich imagination and skill. He was a great inspiration to many aspiring violinists during his lifetime, as is evident from the number of disciples he had.
